So after my run with the fellas on Sunday, I decided to tear the 1911 down and check it today just for something to do cuz I was bored, and to my surprise, a ring of metal was wrapped up in the spring! For anyone that knows how the pistols operate I will describe the best I can. It was part of the spring retainer, once you put the barrel into the slide there is a barrel retainer, it goes in at an angle then twists to lock in, the spring retainer slides in through the bottom of the slide to lock the barrel retainer in so it can't untwist and fall out.
The spring then goes in the retainer and then you put the spring guide on, then rest it against the hop-up block. the part that broke was the spring retainer...there is a ring that stops the retainer from going in to the slide to far...but what I have found with some testing is that it doesn't effect the gun any with it not being there. It cant go in to far because as long as the barrel retainer is in the right place they lock into each other like a tongue and groove setup.
The reason I checked it is because I had a couple jams when playing on Sunday so I figured I was bored and it kinda had me wondering. This is what I am guessing was causing the jams. The piece of the retainer dropped down into the spring and was catching on the slide when it was fired, and when I recocked it, it would unjam so I could get a couple more rounds out of it until it jammed again.
If anyone has any ideas on if this can hurt the gun, or if its just a simple flaw that's not going to bother anything let me know as I don't want to hurt my only weapon.
