If you do or do not have anything to hide, privacy is still nice.
Usually on a computer, you have borderline zero privacy and it is usually just accepted.
With a few lightweight programs, you can totally change this. With the combination of programs I will list, privacy is yours.
CCleaner
Your browser history is stored on a file in your computer called index.dat and to "clear" your history manually, all it does is clear index.dat. Your history is easily recoverable in tons of different ways if all you do is clear the .dat file.
CCleaner will literally delete your index.dat folder and create new along with a few other loop holes to make your history virtually impossible to recover.
CCleaner will clear your temporary files, history, cookies, download history, forum history, recycle bin, recent documents, and log files.
This tool is the easiest to use history powerhouse on the internet currently.

Folder Lock
This is a pretty much self explanatory program. This is BY FAR the best encryption tool on the market. Folder Lock can encrypt, lock, and shred files/folders with ease. Multiple encryptions are used for the .flak files created by Folder Lock and are basically impossible to decrypt with out the set password.
With this, you can make files OR folders on your computer impossible to view with out the set password.
Folder Lock comes with a mobile version that can be installed on a flash drive also that stores a boot-able version of Folder Lock on it along with what ever encrypted files you may want.

Tor
This is the easiest way to hide your IP address online. Tor protects you from internet surveillance and lets you surf the web anonymously. Mostly to do this, it lets you change your IP address.
This is the simplest, most reliable, free way to hide your IP address.

Peer Block
Constantly while your computer is connected to the internet, in use or not, packets of information are being received and sent out to many different places from Microsoft to Comcast and even the federal government. These packets track your actions, report different types of computer history, and basically all other types of shenanigans.
Most of this information is just thrown into a database to be used to search demographics for marketing. No matter its use, this is easily considered creepy and an invasion of privacy.
Peer Block lets you choose who comes and goes on your computer. If you are like me, you can sever your connection to EVERYONE other then situational exception.

www.comodo.com/
This is probably the best firewall on the internet, and surprisingly enough, it is free. Other then the usual uses of a firewall, Comodo has a few functions that can increase your privacy.
With Comodo, you can sever the connection between programs on your computer and the internet; this stops them from pushing information about you.
