The motor spins when out of the gearbox but not when its in.
It sounds like a screeching sound The gear box worked before all i did was take out the old wiring harness and put in a new one.

1) Make sure the wiring polarity is correct. 2) It is possible that a shim was knocked loose, or something else which is locking up the geartrain. 3) Make sure the battery is charged. 4) Try adjusting the motor height, it may be too high.

Check the spur gear, both times that I had the "screeching sound" teeth were missing/broken

Yeah I'm going to second a broken gear or VERY worn teeth. Almost sounds like they want to catch but just can't quite do it.

Well, another thing I just remembered. Did you remember to tighten the pinion gear screw that we talked about? Could be that the gear is spinning on the motor axle, and then randomly catching a bit of friction for a second, and then continuing to spin.

HRMMM possible but normally the ones that use a set screw, the shaft is D shaped and the pinion gear has a D shaped hole. Even if the screw is loose, it can't spin on the shaft.
Normally if they have a round O shaped shaft, they are pressed on with NO set screw with Systema being the one, off the top of my head, that has a round press fit shaft AND a set screw. You don't even have to use the set screw with those Systema's.
Technically if the pinion was loose, the gun SHOULD still work due to the D shape, the ones that are round shouldn't come loose.
I suppose it could happen though. Let me ask though, have you ever seen a round shaft that was loose? How would you even tighten that? I'm honestly curious. What brands of guns might use that? That would be a pretty crappy setup lol.

I have seen a few guns like that, but I honestly cant remember if his motor was D or O shaped, so I threw it out there I have had to fix a few spinning pinions on O shafts and I basically used some robo-grip pliers with pretty aggresive tread on the jaws. Squeezing real hard on the shaft indents the metal slightly which gives it a bit more grip. If you look at O motor shafts under the pinion, they have a little bit of this tread stock, but you can add more for more grip. Wish I had a lathe and I could just knurl it.

With all the cheap Chinese crap out there I thought maybe some dumb-ass China-soft company maybe used a loose round press fit setup and was relying on the set screw to hold it in place.
I've not personally seen this but I thought maybe you had, hence me asking.
Honestly there is no way to know WHAT is wrong until someone opens it. I've made wrong calls before, thought it was one thing, turned out to be something else.
Never know until you know.

well after finally getting time to open it up again, I found that the back of piston broke off. sucks but think that's what was holding it back. ill order a new one and then well see if that helps. Thanks for all the help.
and Mav it is d Shaped and i did tighten it.
