M40a3 Project Thread Recently I have had the craving for my old TM Gspec which I regrettably had to sell a couple years back. This is what she looked like in her prime. That being said, I was never able to complete my ultimate goal for the gspec, and that was to convert it over to an m40a3. At the time, the options were to buy the ridiculous expensive Fortress stock for $350 that was known to break, or fabricate my own. I tried to make my own with my limited skills at the time, and the wood stocks I would make were never quite strong enough. Needless to say, I never satisfied my urge and now I have the bug again. A few days of searching forums to find a good platform led me to this rifle from TOMMYGUN on ASF. It was already on its way to my m40, so why not? These pictures are of the rifle as I got it. Not a bad platform for me to start from. The reshaping process has been done using Bondo, which is what I will use to finish the conversion. The first thing with any good rifle is to upgrade the hell out of it to make it shoot pretty. My parts list for now is as follows: - Masamune Teflon Cylinder - Masamune Cylinder Head - ASGI Piston - ASGI Bearing Spring Guide - ASGI Sears - ASGI m170 - LL M100 - KA Hop Bucking - EDGI Tightbore - Harris 6-9 Bipod - Leupold m1 3.5x-10x x40mm That is all I have for now, I just got the parts in tonight. Keep tuned in for progress on what shall be an awesome project.

Can't wait to see what she looks like when you're done. One pretty penny for that edgi barrel. I can say that I held this rifle, and she felt really good.

Are going to do a "redo" of the old with the same paint job or something new?

It will end up being a tan base with OD stripes and maybe a bit of brown striping as well.

Update 8/2/11 Alright, I know this is a little over due, but life is busy right now working full time and such. I have made a lot more progress on the stock, starting with the area near the trigger. Here are some photos during the bondo process. I have also decided that I will not be doing the front end of the A3 to the T as it is just a ton of material to add. It will look A3 esque, but will not be a carbon copy. Another reason for this is so that I do not have to mod each mag that I own, or lengthen the mag release button. In that area, the rifle silhouette will look normal from the side profile, but will be tapered and shaped to use the original controls on the bottom side. Comments are welcome, even though not a ton has been done so far. Future plans: - Have an m14 mag I will be adding as a faux mag shortly. - ABS sheet is on its way for the cheekrest. - RIS rail will be added to the bottom of the foregrip for harris installation. Sorry for the contrast on some of the pics, light was fading and I snapped them with the respirator on still DSLR + giant mask = bad pics

Update 8/3 Got the hole cut today for the faux mag. I am using an m14 hicap which I cut down to the right size. I will be stripping the old paint off the mag and repainting it obviously. Fits snug as a bug in a rug now, and will look awesome painted in. Started sanding and smoothing the previous bondo on the rear part of the stock.
