I have recently started jogging and running to help get in shape. But I often get a increadbly sharp pain in my shins. Some of my friends who run track called them shin splints. I really would like to know a way to prevent these

stretch out your shins before running. a way to do this is to pull down on your foot and hold it

Eat bananas and drink a lot of water and stretch them LIGHTLY before your run to warm then up then stretch harder after!

So in recrruit training we had this happen to almost everyone. I found if you point your ankles to the sky and curl the toes, hold it then stretch down helps, I normally only held for 10 secs and repeated. Also push yourself up on your toes then back down to the deck will strengthen it.

In all honesty there is no real way to prevent them. However you can make them less painfull and quicker to recover from.
The increase of stretching and warming up before hand is the biggest thing for you. However an increase in Vit D and Magneisum is also a big plus as well as these will help strengthen your bones as well.
I will post more on these two supplaments here in a few days.
