There is a lot to say about this little endeavor. I'll start with the facility.
It was a LOT smaller than what we are used to over here in kzoo. With that said, they use their space quite well. The buildings are top notch. Very clean buildings which is what I expected. Very similar to that of CQB city. Unfortunately the building used to be a factory that used a lot of oil. To make matters worse, the floors are wood. The wood in the floors soaked up a lot of the oil making the floors VERY slick. I fell twice hurting my elbow and palm but nothing serious. Im pretty sure we all ate the dust at least once.
The first couple of games were CTF with a twist. You dont actually capture a flag. Instead you rush to the middle and use a pulley system and string your flag down. Once its down, game over. This proved to be very VERY difficult as the flags are in the middle with almost NO cover. Also, at the beginning teams were very one sided. You basically had the vets on one team and the noobs on the other team. It was a slaughter fest. But soon we moved on to more game types which made it a little bit more fun.
Overall, when we played, it was fun. Not OMG SUPER AMAZING FUN, but fun.
Now on to the bad stuff.
First thing that got to me was the bang kills. I am a kzoo crew player so I am largely not used to this rule. I am aware of the rule and know of it but I am just not used to having to bang kill someone. I was bang killed whilst rounding a corner before my body was even showing. So apparently you can bang kill someones gun barrel which segways PERFECTLY into my next gripe. Gun hits count. Dont know why. A little ridiculous if you ask me. But hey, its their rules and I played by them.
My second gripe was the fact that everyone basically stopped playing at 11pm. So we basically drove 3 hours to play for 4. Honestly, in my personal opinion, it was not worth the money or the drive.
Also, as usual, there were a few incidents of no hit calling. A few of them were the vet player(s). I will not mention names as I do not want to get into a dispute if they read this. But for the most part, the game was played with honor and I honestly loved rolling with the guys from east side. Great group of guys who I hope to play with in the future. Wolf is one cool S.O.B.
Another gripe, which I mentioned before, is the oily floors. Its cqb and I basically cant run or move quickly or do something sudden or I will fall on my ass (which I did several times). Hopefully they will figure something out to get that fixed as that is a huge safety hazard. Falling on wooden floors isnt fun and actually hurts quite a bit.
Other than all of that, everything went great. After all is said and done, I dont think it was worth it but would possibly make the drive again in the spring or summer months.
Which brings me to....the car ride.
Riding with Kazz and Shamrock was what I expected. Hilarious, good times the entire way. HOWEVER! The car ride back was honestly the most terrifying experience in my life. The Magpul Ford Focus fishtailed the ENTIRE way back. At one point, we almost swerved off the road. Shamrock had lost almost all control of the vehicle. The roads were basically pure ice. Grant was in the back curled up in the fetal position begging for mercy. I will say that the OH Crap handles in the car were utilized more than once. It has been a long time since my heart tried to jump out of my throat, but it definitely did when Shamrock almost lost all control of the car. Also, mind you this is in between the car fishtailing ever 8 seconds the ENTIRE WAY.
With all of that being said, I will post video later of Shamrock, Kazz, and myself attempting to sing Bohem1an Rhapsody by Queen. You wont be able to see anything but its the audio that counts.
Edit: Had to change the name of the song and put a 1 in there for the letter i so it wouldnt change the name to purgatory.
