I've known that you can make homemade smoke grenades for a while, but havn't really thought about making any until I saw how thick the smoke is from them in the end of this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9FcRusVWnvgIf anyone ever made some of these, how would you recommend doing it, and are these even allowed at most airsoft fields insurance-wise?

First of all I have LOTS of EXP from this. Kzoo does not condone the use of dangerous homemade pyro. Its a mix of KNO3 and C6H12O6 or sugar and potassium nitrate Of a ratio of 60/40 with KNO3 being 60 and per pound of KNO3 mix add 1 table spoon of baking soda as a moderator to slow the burn. COOK OUTSIDE and not indoors but you want the mix to turn into a peanut butter color and texture on a LOW flame. Now you can avoid this all together and just mix the mix in dry powder form which is much safer. It will burn with a 1500 degree pink flame. The flame also will shoot out about 4-6 inches so no, its 1 considered hot smoke and 2 a homemade pyrotechnic so its illegal to make/use/own. No field will allow it. Hope this help.
Also don't make this indoors if you over heat the mix it WILL cause a house fire.
Pm me for a further in depth procedure.

I made some of this on my stove using stump remover and sugar. Cooked it in a fry pan until soupy, and then poured it into some tin foil. Burned readily with a pink flame. Lots of smoke, but with the huge flames it definitely did not seem too safe to use in a game.
But, I would highly recommend trying it. Me and my kids had a great time with it.

I cant find saltpeter aka tree stump remover aka potassium nitrate ANYWHERE! I checked the whole Berrien County and I dont want to order off line cause that might red flag me with the ATF cause you know they are watching that stuff.

Ha ha! You can buy it at Lowes. I have half a carton of it left from my last little "smoke bomb adventure.."
I ended up deciding that my homemade smoke bombs were a tad "too dangerous" for use in the Airhouse, or any other place with anything flammable! They shot a 2 foot pink flame when lit! Maybe a different recipe next time.. I definitely recommend adding the baking soda as Jester so wisely pointed out.
