Thanks for all the kind words Tino! You all have been very kind to us, and we really appreciate that!
I am TSgt. (Technical Sergeant) Mechem USAF (ret). I teach Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps in South Bend, Indiana. IN-943 is our unit number.
I was in AF SPEC OPS for 14 of my 17 1/2 years, did a lot of fun stuff while I was in. I retired early to teach high school, been doing that since 1995!
If you are not one of my Cadets or Team members, you can call me Sarge.
I am the Commandant of the IN943 Special Tactics School And "Coach-Sponsor-Advisor-Instructor-Player" in the 943rd Spec Warfare Tactics Group/Team/Unit (We haven't quite decided what we will use for a Team Name, but SWAT is associated with LE, so that shouldn't be used)
Myself- I am basically a noob to Airsoft itself, but my team and it's head instructors are very experienced, as the guys who played against and with them can tell you.
We started a Special Tactics School for Airsoft MilSim here. I had to write a curriculum, including all plans, weapons, and items to be taught, time required and how it relates to us as a professional shadowing program. Since a lot of LE/Military play and are involved with Airsoft now, it was pretty easy to get that part of it done. Only took 4 weeks to get approval from both the Air Force and the School system. They school system was most concerned about how this would be perceived by the Joe Public once we were seen or found out.
I got the Air Force to give us some cash to outfit at least part of the team, after that, we gotta self fund through fund raising or sponsorship.
South Bend is a very "left wing" town. When JROTC came here 16 years ago, they almost had protests in the street, now we and our sister units (Air Force and Marine) are part of the systems and regarded very well.
I have 22-25 cadets in the school right now, hopefully once we really get going, it will expand. I have four Instructors, all High School Juniors, who do most of the work. You must be a member of AFJROTC to do this, we have to have control, responsibility, and accountability so I can only have kids I can trust in the program or going to events.
The Main guys are:
Chief Zach Alfrey, Chief Instructor Lt. Erich Goen, Instructor Lt. Chris Meehan, Instructor Chief Darian Brown, Instructor
They all specialize in something different, and are a wealth of knowledge, experienced players, instructors and above all, good people.
All four are training for military careers
Alfrey- Marsoc Goen- Pararescue Meehan- EOD Brown- Marine Sniper
I can tell I am going to be a gear w***e already. This reminds me of being back in active duty, and while initially I was just going to coach, and teach, I have been persuaded by many to play (plus it looks like a lot of fun!) so, I will join in some events with my kids.
We are looking at teaching tactics to teams to raise funds and will work out the particulars in the coming months, and where we can travel, events and stuff like that.
We are going to fully throw our support to the guys in the KZOO Crew and Airsoft Kzoo. The place is fun, the folks I met were all cool and level.
We all hope to meet, or Kill you in the future(LMAO, had to put that in there!)
Hooyah Have a great Day Sarge Mechem
